Description
Standing by a steep cobbled street running directly to the Kyrenia Harbour, it is named after the Ottoman Governor of Cyprus who donated the land where it is built.
The mosque, in an obviously Ottoman style, was built in the 1580’s, although some sources claim the building was converted from a Lusignan warehouse.
The cut stone rectangular construction has three main rooms and furnished with a single minaret.
Agha Cafer Pasha Mosque is frequented by Muslim worshippers to date.
At the southeast of the mosque is the Hasan Kavizade Huseyn Efendi fountain, built in 1841.
The northern face has three arches and is typical of the Ottoman design in the mid-19th century. In the middle arch there is a marble inscription crescent, a coat of arms and branch figures carved into the stonework.
