Description
The 17th century “old market” has been renovated to retain its old charm. The Bandabulya is located in Kyrenia's ancient district, next to one of the Round Towers.
As a City Hall with an associated outdoor market, the original structure was built in 1878 under British colonial control. The building was transformed into an indoor market during the winter.
The market housed a sizable number of greengrocers, butchers, and fishmongers as late as the 1970s.
The decision to renovate the Bandabulya as a tourist market and craft hub with facilities for dining and drinking was made in 2005.
During renovation, as much as possible of the original material was reused, the available sandstone was recycled.
